Mary Oslund ::

Tere Mathern, co-director of Conduit Dance, Inc., has been a contemporary dance performer, choreographer, and educator for over 17 years. Described as “lucid, limpid, and smart” showcasing “intuitive, elegant partnering,” her work has been performed in venues throughout the US including, Seattle, Anchorage, Portsmouth NH, Madison WI, NYC, and Ohio. She received her MA in Interdisciplinary Studies from NYU in 1994. She became a certified movement analyst (CMA) in Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies in 1996 while living in NYC. Returning to Portland in 1997, she became a Conduit core artist and then its director in 1998, and in 2002/03 began working with current company members of Tere Mathern Dance. Tere performs regularly in her own work and in that of Minh Tran & Company, most recently in his commissioned concert presented by White Bird’s PSU Series in October 2003. Tere has received support for her work from the Oregon Arts Commission, National Endowment for the Arts, and PSU's (former) Contemporary Dance Season, the Metropolitan Arts Commission, and the Regional Arts & Culture Council. She was guest artist during Reed Arts Week 2002, is ongoing faculty at Conduit, and recently received a Professional Development Grant from the City of Portland’s Artistic Economy Initiative. Tere's most recent project, Elements (2004), a collaboration with electro-acoustic composer Joseph Waters, was generously funded by the Regional Arts & Culture Council.


Mary Oslund is Artistic Director of Oslund + Company/Dance, a contemporary dance company based in Portland. As a choreographer, teacher and performer, Oslund is regarded as one of the Pacific Northwest’s leading dance artists. Throughout her career, she has advanced the discipline of contemporary dance through the exploration and creation of new work with choreography marked by compelling and expressive physicality, movement invention, specialized group work, and a unique approach to partnering. Her work has been supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, The Oregon Arts Commission, the New York Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts, the Regional Arts & Culture Council, White Bird, and the National Dance Project of the New England Foundation for the Arts. Oslund’s teaching career has included serving on the faculties of Reed College, Lewis & Clark College, the University of Oregon, and Portland State University. She founded and directed Dance Works Studio in Eugene, Oregon and co-founded and now co-directs Conduit Dance with Tere Mathern in Portland, both of which have provided a home base for Oslund +Co/Dance.
