Conduit Dance+ Call For Proposals
Conduit Dance seeks proposals for original contemporary dance and interdisciplinary performances to be featured in this year's Dance+ Performance Festival in July 2013 fully produced at Conduit’s versatile and intimate studio theater. The Dance+ Performance Festival is dedicated to presenting innovative, exploratory, collaborative, and hybrid works.
The Festival is looking for new contemporary works by artists of all types— the work must include dance as a core element. Any artist interested in incorporating movement and dance is encouraged to apply. The Dance+ Performance Festival is interested in collaboration and encourages cross-fertilization with artists of many genres to become involved in dance and performance. The Conduit space is well suited for artists not looking for the typical proscenium or black box performance setting. While both natural light and white out are possible, proposals that integrate and/or capitalize on the character of the Conduit space (in mid-July) are encouraged. The lead applicant may be an artist of any genre, but the project must feature dance or movement forms and be contemporary in its approach and conceptual framework. A strong proposal will include an experienced movement artist.
Original works will be 15-30 minutes and will be presented in one Thurs-Sat weekend program (July 11-13 or July 18-20, 2013). A panel of peer artists and arts administrators will assist in selecting up to seven proposed projects. The curatorial goal to create an exciting and balanced set of programming may affect the number of weekends and artists presented.
Dance+ Festival artists/projects will be announced by April 2nd. Conduit will provide accepted artists with technical requirements, a work space grant, and an honorarium fee of $400-$800.Artists outside of Portland are eligible to apply, but transportation and lodging expenses are not covered. Priority may be given to Portland area artists.
